| The Park Deerfield
Honors Veterans, Inc. is a not-for profit public supported corporation formed for the
purpose of developing and maintaining a community park to honor the service of all past
and present members of our Armed Forces. The concept has been under consideration
for several years and The Corporation was formed in 2002 to develop an appropriate tribute
to those who have served and those who are serving today. Members of The Corporation
include a small, but dedicated group of Deerfield Township residents who want to ensure
the legacy of those who have "put it all on the line" in the cause of
freedom. When completed, the park will be a unique and lasting salute to past,
present and future generations who take up the call to arms in order that the rest of us
may remain free. |

To date, with contributions from
local businesses and individuals, a location has been secured, plans have been completed,
and construction has begun. With the help of Deerfield Township Trustees, property
was secured in the northwest edge of Cottell Park at the corner of Snider and
Irwin-Simpson Roads. Cottell Park is the crown jewel of the Deerfield Township Park
system, and an ideal location for this community-oriented project. Before
her death in 2001, Mary Cottell, patroness of the park, generously donated $50,000 to the
parks system. In 2005, new baseball and soccer fields were added and the
walking/jogging path was completed. A recent $750,000 upgrade project improved the
park's lighting, drainage, roadways and parking areas. A new restroom is under
construction and picnic areas, protective shelters and a fishing boardwalk are in the
planning stages. The Snyder House, located at the park, can be rented for receptions,
parties and events. To learn more about Cottell Park,
